Thyroid Glossary:  Terms you need to know


  Calcitonin: hormone produced by the thyroid gland.

  Thyroid Gland: A gland that produces hormones which affect metabolism, growth, and cellular differentiation.

Thyroid Stimulating hormone: TSH or thyrotropin, secreted by the pituitary gland it stimulates the thyroid gland to produce and secrete thyroid hormones.

  Thyroxine: A critical hormone produced by the thyroid gland, it has an important effect on growth and metabolism.
